Sophie Howarth Photography Rock & Roll Archive

Created in the heyday of Australia's music festival scene (1992-2014), the Sophie Howarth Photography Rock & Roll Archive will soon be available online.

If you know the era, you will recognise Sophie's work.

She was the official photographer for the Big Day Out, wrote the first book ever published about the festival, and was a photographer for Rolling Stone Australia. Sophie covered Homebake, Summersault, Splendour in the Grass, and Garma Festival in Australia's Top End.

The archive regularly attracts interest from museums and galleries. Exhibitions include Unpopular, Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Sydney (2022-2023), and Behind the Lens with Sophie Howarth, Glasshouse Gallery, Port Macquarie (2021-2022).

Currently being digitised, the archive is due for completion 2025. Researchers should read the FAQs page for more information about making a request.
