Frequently asked questions

Find answers to your questions about buying and using my work, archive research and use of this website below. If the answer isn't here, email me (link in footer).

I’d like to see some of your work that is not on the website. How can I see it?

Requests to research the Sophie Howarth Rock Archive can be made by email.

My work is available for sale and can be used for personal and commercial purposes. My rates reflect the usage required.

For a comprehensive search of my archive, I charge a flat fee of $250, payable upfront. This fee confirms your order and covers costs for me to scan images and supply you with a digital proof sheet. The digital proof sheet will be watermarked (for selection purposes only). You don't have to order a print but proof sheets must be destroyed once the job has closed (which is when a decision is made to order a print or not).

How long will it take?
Archive searches can usually be completed in 14 days. Requests leading up to Christmas (and during exhibition preparation and installation times) may take longer. Let me know if there's any urgency to your request when you email me.

What's the difference between a limited edition print and an open edition print?

A limited-edition print is numbered and is available in a limited quantity. Therefore it's rarer. An open edition is not numbered and the quantity is unlimited. Both prints are signed, only the limited edition is numbered.

What size prints do you offer?

Limited edition photographic prints are available in set sizes. Depending on the collection, sizes will vary. Please refer to the image you are interested in on the website. Go to Collections.

Custom print sizes are available for images that are not part of a limited edition. Email if you'd like to know more.

Visit my Gift Shop to see a range of photographs offered as 11 x 14-inch art prints. These fit into standard shop bought frames and make an easy gift.

How are your prints made?

All my prints are made in Australia and are printed on museum-quality archival rag paper.

What should I do when I receive my print and how do I care for it?

To ensure the longevity of your photographic print I recommend the following:

  • Have it framed by a professional framer with an archival quality mat, and use glass or art quality acrylic in your picture frame.

  • Keep your print out of direct sunlight and away from moisture.

Do you offer framing?

Yes! I offer framing for all my work. During peak periods framing turnaround times may take a bit longer.

What are the exact dimensions of your framed prints?

Sizes vary - you'll see this information in the shopping cart page.

Biodegradable packaging and carbon neutral shipping is used where possible through my preferred supplier Sendle. All costs are detailed in the shopping cart. My returns policy will be available soon. For urgent enquiries, please email

I like your photographs, can I use them?

It is a breach of copyright law to use or reproduce my work without my permission. To get permission email me

Can I licence your work for commercial and/or non-commercial purposes?

Yes! I will send you my standard licence agreement for the usage granted. This agreement protects you and me. The details of the schedule are set out for each particular agreement.

All agreements require that my work be attributed with the words “by Sophie Howarth Photography” and must link to my website or (if the image appears in print) show my web address

Do you offer wholesale?

I do for some of my work. For enquiries about using my images as surface art or to stock my photographs, books or greeting cards, please get in touch

Will you keep my details private?

I'm committed to protecting your privacy. I will never sell or trade your details and will only share your details for legitimate purposes such as shipping or where I am legally obliged to do so. Read the full policy.
